01 — Why Tampico Fiber

A Natural Material Engineered by Nature

65% More Absorption

Absorbs 65% more water than plastic fillings.

Natural Surface Texture

Calcium oxalate crystals provide unique roughness.

Long-Lasting

Maintains smoothness and quality over time.

100% Biodegradable

Natural fiber — no plastic substitute exists.

02 — Sustainability

Renewable by Nature

Ixtle is harvested from the leaf, not the plant. Nothing is felled, the root stays in the ground, and the fiber returns to the soil at the end of its life.

Life cycle comparison: tree harvest and wood pulp versus agave leaf harvest and ixtle fiber extraction
Regrowth in 1–2 years

Wood pulp versus Ixtle fiber — harvested leaves regenerate in one to two years while the plant keeps growing.

Carbon cycle of Ixtle fiber: atmosphere, photosynthesis, fiber production and aerobic decay
Closed carbon cycle

Atmospheric CO2 is fixed by the agave, stored as organic carbon in the fiber, and returned by aerobic decay.

Grupo Interoceanico Cala is a Mexican family business dedicated to producing and exporting Tampico Fiber / Lechuguilla Ixtle. Based in Saltillo, Coahuila, we source directly from the Agave Lechuguilla plant in the semi-desert of northern Mexico.

We connect with brush manufacturers and distributors at international trade shows — CIBRUSH, WBE, INBRUSH — and through our global distributor network.
